How to Ship Cupcakes!
By lindiesl
The answer, Mason Jars!
One of the questions I am usually asked by friends and family, when they see me post pictures of my delicious cupcakes online is, "Can you send me some in the mail? " I felt a sense of regret when my reply used to be, "No". I wanted to share my delicious creations with everyone.
I then began researching online to figure out a way to mail my cupcakes to my aunt, who lived twenty states from where I was. To my dismay, nothing worked. Dividers only became disheveled when in the mail. Frosting from one end of the box to the other, even with overnight mail. I guess the delivery man missed the huge black letters that said, This side up and Fragile (maybe he thought it was French too). I wasn't giving up though. I tired freeze dried ice (does not leave a good taste on the cupcakes), dixie cups covering the tops of them, individual boxes, fondant and several more disapointments.
Then while shopping in the local hardware store, I saw them. Beautiful half pint mason jars. I bought a dozen of them and began baking as soon as I got home. I poured the cupcake batter right inside the jars and baked my cupcakes as usual. They came out perfect! I then cooled them, piped in the frosting and sealed the lid. I felt so pleased with myself, I knew this would be the one that worked.
I packed the mason jar cupcakes in a box, added some bubble wrap (ok by some I mean tons and tons) and shipped them off to my aunt priority mail. In two days she received them, in perfect conditions with very little frosting on the lid.
I wanted to find ways to decorate the jars as well, so I then started to research and there it was...a picture of a cupcake baked into a half pint mason jar, tied with a cute ribbon and spoon. So I had to face the facts, I was not the first one to think of this idea but it is still a great and successful way to ship your cupcakes to loved ones without a big frosting mess!

That is very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
I have heard of "cupcakes in a jar" before but every time, it amazes me that you can bake it right in the jar! Props to you for figuring it out yourself and trying it!
